5th week

                  [Wood Sculpture]
For this piece I at first had no idea what I wanted to do, I just knew I wanted to make a sculpture. I looked at artists for reference like David Hammons, Pablo Picasso but did not want to emulate their style of work into mine. I then tried to put my painting style into my sculpture which is abstract and free flowing. Making this sculpture I randomly was placing them nailing pieces of wood together to for form a structure with various shapes of wood and different kinds of wood. Starting out I didn't know what the final outcome would be because it was some what of an experiment, so once I noticed that it was forming into a head I kind of went into that direction giving it eyes and a nose. Also, what I started to do during the process of making this sculpture was creating shapes within the sculpture ranging from almost anything. During the critique I got great feedback for example that there was gesture in my sculpture and how it was similar to my painting that I did during the previous week. With this positive feedback I am going to continue to make these sculptures.
(Sharon Hill by artist Nick Edmonds, which inspired me not just this piece but all of his wood sculptures)
                  [Woodblock Print]
On making this Woodblock print I had to create a design that would resemble the work of my fellow classmate's Nikki. Nikki usually makes these creatures, the one she made during the first week was a painting with two black figures with no background. During the second week she created two distinct creature with human qualities on the a white canvas so it was as if they were floating, well to me any way. The third week she constructed out of wood a panel that contained a green creature with wings and a wicked smile. On the fourth week she brought her creatures to life by sculpting a small creature and had it attached to a straw that was contained in a glass. One thing I did notice about her work is that she progressively brought here creatures to life step by step. At first I wanted to continue with what she already had going on by sculpting a creature. However, I thought about what would I do? I came to the conclusion of making a block print for the simple reason that she had not made one yet. For the beginning stages I doodled some creatures and picked the best one I thought represented her body of work. Once I had my creature I drew him into the wood and proceeded to carve the wood; then eventually printing it onto paper with black ink. I'm glad Nikki enjoyed it and said that it could fit with her collection of creatures she has created. It felt that I had accomplished the task.

3rd week

            [Acrylic and Ink on canvas]
This week I completely moved away from my original intentions and ideas I had originally planned for this class. I wanted to do something as a series, for this work I wanted to make a short comic. I will call this series the "Ugly Duck", and the background of it is a duck that has been contaminated to do the toxic waste that is being dumped into its ecosystem. I wanted to make something comical about a serious topic. I have strong opinions on what is being done around the globe from this issue of dumping toxic waste into these ecosystems and the ramifications on what it is doing to the species around these ecosystems. I mainly want to being light into this serious topic and possibly post my comics on any social media platform.

2nd week

               [Acrylic on Vinyl record]
I have a collection of old vinyl records of various artists that I listen to, most of the time is usually when I'm working on projects. I decide to paint on this because I notice how old and used up some records were and I wanted to put my own touch on to them. While working on this vinyl I came up with an idea of creating a mural of different records from numerous bands that have made some sort of an impact on my life.

4th week

[previous work I have done that gave me inspiration for this week]
           [Oil on 18x24 inch canvas]
This week I wanted to move on from the work I made last week. I went back to a art style that I developed last semester and that inspired me to create this work. It is a more free flowing approach, and I wanted to combine three more 18x24 inch canvases to form a square so that I can create a larger piece. My old painting I used other materials and mixed it with the oil paint such coins ranging from pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters, and even paint brushes. I wanted to use similar materials in this work because it creates a 3-D effect on the canvas.
The criticism I got from my classmates was positive feed back and I feel like I am moving in the right direction, and even giving ways to better my work so the viewers can enjoy my work more.

1st week

                  [Acrylic on Canvas]
For this painting I used a Leonardo da Vinci, charcoal drawing called "The Lost of Anghiari." My main goal for this drawing was not mimic Leonardo da Vinci's precise technique, but to pay homage to him by appropriating his drawing with my own style. This painting led to a false representation of these figures which is the opposite of what Leonardo did in his original work. I came into this painting with no real direction with what I wanted the final outcome to be, it was a experiment painting where I did not believe in the accident I just kept painting.
               [Oil paint on wood]
This is a portrait of Muhammad Ali, and I decided to have a limited choice of color so I grabbed five colors to use. This was my first idea for what I wanted to do for this class.
